Call it Operation Uplift: The Sequel. The Forsyth based effort to send care packages to Georgia National Guard troops has been revived to help support the soldiers in Afghanistan. Monroe County residents worked hard four years ago to shower members of the 48th National Guard Brigade and the Forsyth-based 148th Support Battalion with care packages while they were in Iraq. Now, with these units deployed to Afghanistan, Operation Uplift is being re-deployed as well.
The group is collecting items to send as many care packages as possible to the troops. The goal is to get the first round of packages to the troops in time for the holidays. Organizers for the effort include: Connie Ham with Middle Georgia Realty, David Davis with 1st Franklin Financial, Mike Lewis with The Vietnam Veterans Legion, the American Red Cross Central Georgia Chapter, and Volunteer Macon.
